The new Fortuner 2016 is here!

News

Al-Markazia Announces the Arrival of the All-new Fortuner Refined Style for an Exceptional Driving Experience to the Kingdom

Amman, Jordan May 2016: Al-Markazia, the sole distributor of Toyota, Lexus and Hino trucks in

Jordan, announced the launch of the 2016 Fortuner in the Jordanian market. This second

generation model builds on its heritage of being a durable sport utility vehicle (SUV) with

impressive off-road capabilities. With the new Fortuner, Toyota has focused on creating a more

distinctive, sleek and powerful design while improving performance and adding a wide variety

of features to increase convenience, safety and ride comfort.

While commenting on this launch, the Sales and Marketing Director and Deputy General

Manager at Al-Markazia Nadim Haddad said, “The all-new Fortuner is the outcome of Toyota’s

continuous efforts to redefine toughness while offering sports-car lovers powerful vehicles with

drastically improved off-road capabilities. This model has a new stronger frame which enables

the vehicle to withstand rough road conditions, in addition to an improved four-link suspension

system for a more comfortable drive. We are pleased to offer this new model to our customers

in the Kingdom, because we want nothing more than to have them drive the latest vehicle and

enjoy all its new features which are characterized by innovation, premium utility and safety.”

Toyota has created a new “Solid Fluidity” design language for the Fortuner which expresses

toughness and wideness through the high body axis, the bulging wheel arch flares as well as the

chunky trapezoidal front bumper.

The large, slanted upper grille is framed by thick chrome plating that extends around the sleek,

aggressive headlamps, while the prominent trapezoidal front bumper creates a sense of depth.

Sophistication and refinement on the other hand is reflected in the detailing – slender headlight

clusters that are fused with the front fenders, the three lines that score the sculpted roof line

and flanks, as well as the sleek rear combination lamps and license plate garnish that blend with

the complex surfaces of the rear body.

The Fortuner has a tough yet smart rear design that defies the typical unrefined image of an

SUV. The rounded upper body is highlighted by chrome-plated moulding that wraps around

from the sides to the back glass and is in contrast to the shape of the rear bumper, which has

protruding corners. The sleek, thin rear combination lamps and license plate garnish blend

gracefully with the rear body.

There are 8 exterior colours: Phantom Brown ME, Nebula Blue ME, Super White 2, White Pearl

CS, Silver ME, Attitude Black MC, Gray ME and Avant-Garde Bronze ME. Phantom Brown has

been newly developed to offer appeal to the new Fortuner, with highlights that glimmer in the

light. Luxury is expressed in two shades of brown. One offers richness and depth, while the

other glimmers with high material quality regardless of being in the city or off-road.

The Fortuner’s ample cabin space is complemented by superb convenience features,

culminating in a sublime driving experience. The interior exhibits the toughness of an SUV,

tempered with the elegance of a premium sedan. A focal point of the dashboard architecture is

the vertical centre cluster flanked by columns of soft simulated leather upholstery that offer leg

support from both sides. In fact, soft-touch textures and exquisite chrome detailing liberally

pepper the cabin; all beautifully harmonising with the clear blue interior illumination.

The interior has stylish white ambient lighting which is easy on the eyes and is used throughout

the interior of the vehicle, creating a warm atmosphere that passengers enjoy. The air

conditioner not only maintains a comfortable cabin temperature, but it can also be used to

warm or chill drinks. It has a high-efficiency compressor which decreases engine load and

enhances cooling performance, contributing to excellent fuel economy performance.

Other innovative touches (model dependent) include a 7-inch tablet-inspired multimedia

touchscreen display that allows easy operation of both the audio and navigation systems, a

Smart Entry & Start system, an electronic 4WD switch and second-row seats with one-touch

operation for ease of folding. The third row seats are equipped with a fixed hook attachment

for simple and convenient stowage. There are no fewer than 15 storage areas in the new

Fortuner.

In terms of seats, two sophisticated colours, Brown and Chamois, further enhance the sense of

material quality available for the luxurious genuine leather seats. The front seats are given a

sporty seat shape that flares out at the shoulders on both sides. A comfortable length for the

front seat cushions has been ensured, while the cushioning has been optimised to enhance

support. The cushion shape for the second-row seat has been optimised to provide better

support, enhancing ride comfort. The folding process for the second-row seat (as passengers

enter or exit the third-row seats) has been simplified.

With a full-colour display, the Rear View Monitor System ensures peace of mind when reverse

parking. Drag and flick (similar to that of smartphones and tablet devices) operation is also

supported. The Auxiliary (AUX) and Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports have been equipped near

the console tray, where small items can be stored. Smartphones and portable media devices

can be used freely. The Fortuner also has a 6 speaker specialised audio equalizer to achieve

low-distortion playback at low range and a clear playback at middle to high range.

The Fortuner has a 4.2-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) type Multi-information Display which is

flanked by strips of blue ambient light on each side. It is located on the dashboard in between

the speedometer and the RPM gauge. It shows driving information, navigation display function,

Eco Drive Indicator (Eco Judge/Eco Wallet), idling-stop time and also has an audio operation

function. An entertainment display function is also provided.

The vehicle is also equipped with a power back door system that can be opened and closed

electronically with a switch. With the memory function, users have the option of storing an

automatic stop position for each time the back door opens.

The Fortuner is available with a wide range of petrol and diesel engine options to choose from.

The available petrol engines include a 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine which produces 164hp and

25.0 Kg-m of torque and the 4.0-litre V6 engine, which churns out 235hp and 38.3 Kg-m of

torque. The diesel engine features a 2.4-litre turbo, which produces 147hp and 40.8Kg-m of

torque.

The Fortuner has a 6-speed automatic transmission which maximises engine potential and

multi-stage gears optimised to improve drive force in the low-speed range. Optimised gear

ratios have been set to provide an acceleration feel with powerful torque. A 5-speed manual

transmission is also available.

The Fortuner has a newly developed frame structure with rigidity increased to the limit,

delivering exceptional toughness in the harshest environments while preventing torsion and

distortion to provide a stable driving experience. More spot welding points have been used and

body rigidity has been increased, thereby improving steering response. As a result, the feeling

of steering input and rear end grip are enhanced.

On the ride and handling front, an all-new frame has been bolstered by strengthened cross

members, side rails and suspension towers, enhancing the torsional and bending rigidity of the

frame. This not only improves durability, but also enhances quality and safety.

The Fortuner’s suspension comfortably absorbs the vibration to provide a ride that you would

expect from a luxury SUV. The suspension uses a double wishbone (front) and a four-link

suspension (rear) combination that has been redesigned for optimised comfort. An additional

rear stabiliser has been installed to aid on-the- road smoothness and stability.

There is a Drive Mode Switch which offers a choice of ECO or POWER driving, while an easy-to-

use 4WD Switch is also equipped. The Drive Mode Switch allows the driver to select a preferred

drive mode – Eco for optimum economy or Power for enhanced acceleration. The Eco Mode

reduces power consumption in relation to acceleration and cooling in consideration of the

environment. Fuel economy is further improved. The Power Mode provides sharper

acceleration response, ensuring a more agile drive. A dial type 4WD switch is equipped with a

sleek design and is easier to operate compared to the previous lever type switch.

The steering wheel has a Tilt & Telescopic steering column and features a bold shape, a

substantial pad and thick chrome ornamentation which combine in harmony with the

instrument panel. A paddle shift allows gear changes without releasing the wheel for a sporty

drive.

The Fortuner is fitted with newly developed 17-inch all-terrain tires, which boast high running

performance both on and off-road. Newly developed 18-inch highway-terrain tyres have also

been designed for the road. The new tread pattern takes into consideration noise reduction on

paved roads and fuel economy performance, in addition to contributing to stable driving.

The Fortuner is equipped with comprehensive safety systems to protect its occupants. These

include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). In

addition to ABS, which prevents the tyres from locking during braking, EBD is equipped to

perform measured brake force distribution between the front and rear wheels according to the

vehicle condition. As a result, the force required to operate the brake pedal is reduced,

ensuring strong braking performance.

The Fortuner comes with the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) for the front seats along

with a knee airbag for the driver. In terms of seatbelts, a three-point Emergency Locking

Retractor (ELR) seatbelt is equipped on all seats. When impact is suddenly applied during a

collision, the seatbelt locks to restrain the passenger. A pretensioner and force limiter function

are also provided for the front seat belts. When a strong impact is received, the seat belt

instantly retracts to prevent load exceeding a specified amount from being applied to the seat

belt, reducing impact to the chest of the passenger during a collision. A top tether anchor

compatible with the Child Restraint System (CRS) is present for the second-row seat.

Toyota Reshapes the Future of Sustainable Motoring

News

Toyota today announced the availability of the fourth generation Prius in the Middle East to unveil thelatest version of this global green icon, which takes the hybrid concept further than ever, with striking design, higher expected fuel economy ratings and greater ride comfort. The arrival of the Prius, Toyota’s first hybrid vehicle in the region, reflects Toyota’s mission in engaging with local communities and continuous efforts to contribute to society by making automobiles that lead to a cleaner environment.

Toyota’s hybrid technology marks a breakthrough in automobile fuel consumption and reflects the company’s commitment to utilizing the technology in driving sustainability forward. The Prius will raise awareness around the premium performance of hybrid technology and will assist in cementing the leading position of alternative energy vehicles.

Commenting on the arrival of the Prius to the region, Takayuki Yoshitsugu, Chief Representative of Middle East & North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation, stated, “At Toyota, we firmly believe that technology is a vital enabler for sustainable development. Driven by this belief, Toyota has been working on the future of sustainable motoring by heavily investing in introducing vehicles that are environment friendly and fun to drive. Toyota’s hybrid experience will be extremely rewarding for our customers. Great looks, comfort and space combined with advanced technology, finely tuned aerodynamics and lightweight materials ensure an exhilarating driving performance, world-class efficiencies and ultra-low CO2 emissions. We see great potential in the Middle East for the Prius. We also sincerely appreciate the unwavering support from our customer base for our initiatives to make more environmentally friendly vehicles.”

In 1993, automotive brands were launching standard cars with basic features. The same year, Toyota invested heavily in developing vehicles with the future in mind. The three environmental challenges that Toyota had addressed included introducing alternative energy sources as opposed to oil, reducing CO2 emissions and preventing pollution. In December 1997, Toyota launched the first generation Prius, the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. In 18 years after rolling out the first Prius, Toyota has sold more than 8 million hybrid vehicles worldwide. Today with the launch of the 2016 Prius, Toyota celebrates 56 years of fruitful research and development efforts.

The two power sources of Toyota’s hybrid technology

Toyota’s hybrid vehicles provide high performance without wasting gasoline, propelled by the synergy between two power sources, which are the gasoline engine and the electric motor. When accelerating, the vehicle uses an electric motor that does not require gasoline to accelerate efficiently and powerfully. In response to driving conditions, the system efficiently combines power from the electric motor and gasoline engine automatically. When the vehicle has stopped, the system also automatically shuts down the engine to avoid wasting fuel during idling. The cumulative effect of preventing gasoline wastage in this manner means Toyota’s hybrid technology can provide dramatically better fuel efficiency than any other vehicle in its class. There is no need to charge the hybrid system battery using external equipment. The hybrid system automatically charges the battery by using electricity generated each time you apply the brakes. Please click on the following link which explains the two power sources https://youtu.be/i6fFwQaftac

Toyota hybrid not only fits the region’s sustainability agenda, but is also in line with the global direction towards more sustainable and greener communities. The Prius, as a symbol of Toyota’s hybrid technology, will contribute to achieving the new Millennium Sustainable Development Goals, which strive for a healthy lifestyle, taking urgent actions to combat climate change, and ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. The alignment between what is delivered with Toyota’s hybrid technology and the efforts exerted globally to sustain the planet’s resources makes the Prius the perfect car for responsible drivers who are aiming to adopt a more eco-friendly approach towards our planet.

Toyota Prius Prime

News
  • Ultra-efficient Prius with Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain
  • Manufacturer-estimated 120 MPGe
  • Techno-wonder with Available 11.6-inch Multimedia HD Display, Head-up Display and Wireless Phone Charging
  • A Total Package in Every Aspect, Adding Up to Great Value

If there’s electricity in the air at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, it’s probably coming from the Toyota display, where the world’s hybrid vehicle leader has unveiled the new Prius Prime, an ultra-efficient model with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. “Prime” means best, making it the perfect name for one of the most technologically advanced, best-equipped Prius in the model’s history.

The Prius Prime’s manufacturer-estimated 120 or above MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) is expected to be the highest MPGe rating of any Plug-in Hybrid.* It also represents a substantial 26-percent enhancement over its predecessor, a result of greater battery capacity and an improved hybrid system. In hybrid mode, the Prius Prime is targeting a hybrid MPG equal to or better than the Prius liftback. The 2017 Prius Prime combines an electrifying design with an even more capable electric powertrain than the previous-generation Prius Plug-in Hybrid. The Prius Prime is expected to offer an estimated two times the electric range of the previous model — 22 miles  – meeting the daily commuter distance of over half of U.S. drivers,  and drive at speeds up to 84 mph without leaving EV mode.As parsimonious with fuel as the Prius Prime may be, it drives with the same verve as the standard new-generation Prius hybrid, one result of the new high-strength platform and double-wishbone independent rear suspension.Prius Prime adds even more premium touches and exclusive tech features compared to the all-new Prius hybrid, including its available 11.6-inch, HD central multimedia screen with standard navigation and available full color head-up display. “Prime” also describes the vehicle’s available advanced safety technology, Toyota Safety Sense™ P. This multi-feature advanced active safety suite, bundles the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Automatic Braking; Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist; Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with full stop technology and Automatic High Beams.  Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are also available for additional peace of mind. All 2017 Prius hybrid models come standard with eight supplemental restraint system airbags, including multi-stage driver and front passenger front airbags; driver and front passenger side airbags; full-length curtain airbags; a driver knee airbag, and a front passenger seat cushion airbag.Electrifying Design Cheats the Wind … and the Scales
If the 2017 Prius Prime looks like the future, it was purely intentional on the designers’ part. The new-generation Prius Prime is 2.4 inches longer, 0.6 inches wider and about an inch lower than its predecessor. The growth boosts cargo room over its predecessor and gives the Prius Prime a road-hugging stance. The wind-cheating body and its high-strength/low weight structure are critical factors in the Prius Prime’s astoundingly low energy consumption. Its coefficient of drag is expected to be among the lowest for production sedans. Automatic grille shutters help reduce drag by closing when airflow to the radiator is not needed.Yet the Prius Prime is no aero jellybean. It’s chiseled profile and edgy character lines seem to dare the wind to stand in its way. Energy-conserving quad LED headlights glow like diamonds cutting the night, and LED rear combination lamps leave an unforgettable nighttime signature. Driver visibility remains excellent, aided by a full-width aero glass panel over the rear spoiler and a standard backup camera.  The distinctive aero rear window is eye-catching and adds to its slipstream character.

While giving the new-generation Prius models more features, Toyota kept vehicle weight in check by using aluminum for the hood, carbon fiber on the rear hatch, and by using high-tensile strength steel in other parts of the structure.  In fact, the lightweight carbon fiber rear hatch makes opening and closing almost effortless.

EV or Hybrid? Both.
The Prius Prime will please anyone who wants to reduce trips to the gas pump, and it would make a great road trip car, too. The Prius Prime will allow drivers to stay in EV mode in more situations, helping to enhance vehicle range on one tank of fuel.  You can plug it in, gas it up, or both.  On one 11.3-gallon tank of regular-grade gasoline and a full electric charge, the 2017 Prius Prime anticipates a class-leading estimated total driving range of over 600 miles (Toyota recommends making occasional stops to refuel and recharge yourself and passengers).

Mechanical Genius
Both the standard Prius hybrid and the Prius Prime are powered by Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain, which seamlessly combines the output of the gasoline engine and electric motor through a planetary-type continuously variable transmission.  The biggest difference is that the Prius Prime can be plugged in at home to recharge its larger 8.8kWh battery pack.

In Hybrid mode, the Prius Prime can run on the gasoline engine or electric motor alone or a combination of both. Even when not running in EV mode, the Prius Prime will automatically rely more on its electric capability in situations where it is more efficient than running the gasoline engine, especially in urban and suburban driving and during shorter trips.

The Prius Prime will also feature a Toyota-first dual motor generator drive system, using both the electric motor and the generator for drive force, helping to boost acceleration performance.  Regenerative braking recaptures electrical energy under deceleration and braking and stores it in the battery, which helps to reduce fuel consumption.

Even better, there’s no special equipment for home charging.  Just use the supplied cord and the Prius Prime takes approximately 5.5 hours using a standard household outlet.  Charging takes less than half the time with a 240V source.

Efficiency Expert
Not to be overshadowed by all the electrical magic, the Prius Prime’s gasoline engine also plays a starring role in that efficiency. The 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle, 4-cylinder engine – the same as in all 2016 Prius hybrid models – earns a groundbreaking 40 percent-plus thermal efficiency. Most modern automobile engines reach about 25-30 percent. Myriad details throughout the hybrid powertrain contribute to the efficiency, including an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system with a cooler, smaller, lighter, quieter hybrid system water pump and an exhaust heat recirculation system that speeds engine warm-up.

Looks Marvelous, Feels Marvelous
The Prius Prime looks and feels far from frugal on the inside, where a four-seat cabin layout, with center console running front to back, looks more like a high-end luxury coupe. Practicality remains ever present, however, with standard 60/40 folding rear seatbacks. It’s a quiet cabin, too, thanks to the sound-insulating laminated windshield and front door glass and the optimized aero shape that helps keep wind noise where it belongs – outside.

The Prius Prime coddles the driver and passengers with standard heated front seats, an automatic climate control system, and available SofTex® synthetic leather trimmed seats. The climate control system is quieter, thanks to an electric compressor, and it’s smarter, focusing airflow only to areas where occupants are seated in order to help maximize fuel economy and comfort.  The climate control system can also operate without the engine on, with a heat pump that allows the system to cool or heat the cabin while driving in EV mode.   The driver can activate the remote air conditioning system with an available key fob or smartphone app to cool the interior before entering the cabin.

High Tech, Low Effort
The centrally mounted gauge panel, a Prius hallmark since the model’s inception, appears to float above the dashboard. The panel features dual 4.2-inch full-color TFT (thin film transistor) multi-information displays, and the driver can change their content by using steering wheel controls.

The display provides a multitude of readouts for hybrid energy information and more, and the driver can choose how much information to view.  Want to cut the cord? With available wireless cell phone charging for Qi-compatible devices, just place your Qi-compatible devices on the console pad to charge it wirelessly.

Multimedia Mogul
Sound and vision inside the Prius Prime likewise meet the standard of “prime.” Toyota equipped this top Prius with its top Entune® multimedia system and made it all accessible through a new and exclusive 11.6-inch HD tablet display. The navigation graphics look simply stunning, and intuitive touch controls make operation a snap.

Prius Prime will also offer an exclusive suite of Prius Prime Apps, allowing you to remotely manage your vehicle’s charging schedule and status, locate charging stations, track and compare your eco driving score with others on social media, remotely control the vehicle’s climate system, and more – all from your smartphone.  It’s advanced eco at your fingertips.

An available Entune™ Premium JBL® Audio system with Integrated Navigation and App Suite puts 10 JBL GreenEdge™ speakers in six locations for sonic bliss. The Entune™ Multimedia Bundle includes AM/FM cache radio (letting you pause songs and play later), HD Radio™, HD Radio™ predictive traffic and Doppler weather overlay, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio with 3-month complimentary SiriusXM All Access trial and Gracenote® album cover art.

Of course there’s a USB 2.0 port with iPod® connectivity and control, plus advanced voice recognition and hands-free phone capability, phonebook access and music streaming via Bluetooth®. For iPhone users, Siri® Eyes Free mode adds yet another in-car assistant.

The Entune App Suite adds yet more music sources, including Slacker Radio, iHeartRadio and Pandora® as well as Destination Search, MovieTickets.com, OpenTable®, Facebook Places, Yelp™ plus real-time traffic, weather, fuel prices, sports and stocks. Access to Entune® services is subscription-free.

Built-in Parking Valet
In the urban jungle, where hunting for a prime parking space is a sport, the Prius Prime wins. Available Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA) uses ultrasonic wave sensors to size up a parallel parking space and then, when activated by the driver, can steer the car into it. The system can also reverse the Prius Prime into perpendicular spaces and automatically steer it out of a parallel space.

When the way forward gets narrow, such as in a parking garage, the system’s Intelligent Clearance Sonar provides visible and audible warnings if the driver gets too close to obstacles on the vehicle’s sides.

Central Trade and Auto sponsors Red Bull’s BC One Competition

News

Central Trade and Auto, the exclusive Toyota dealer in the Kingdom, recently sponsored the local proceedings of the Red Bull BC One break dancing competition, which recently took place at the Kempinski Hotel in Amman. The proceedings brought break dancing enthusiasts together to compete for first place on a local scale, the winners of which will qualify for the regional and later global finals.

CTA’s sponsorship came as part of an agreement it had recently signed with Red Bull to sponsor the brand’s various activities. It also falls in line with CTA’s continued efforts to support initiatives geared toward promoting unconventional arts and sports and spurring their growth in the Kingdom, which will also contribute to the transformation of Jordan into a regional cultural and touristic hub.

The BC One competition had enjoyed the participation of 16 contestants who demonstrated their talents at break dancing — one of the key elements of hip-hop culture whose practitioners are colloquially referred to as “b-boys”. The proceedings were overseen by a committee that evaluated performances based on technique, creativity and homogeneity.

The BC One competition is one of the most celebrated b-boying events in the world, the first of which was hosted in Switzerland in 2004. Since then, the competition has grown rapidly, serving as a vehicle for young stardom to many performers around the globe and transforming b-boying into a professional performance art in many locations, including the Arab World.

It is worth noting that this sponsorship by CTA is part of a series of support initiatives made by the company since its inception 1999, targeting various sectors of the local community.

Toyota Racing Maintains Unbeaten Home record with a Dominant First & Second Place finish in Six Hours of Fuji Race

News

October 15 , 2014 – TOYOTA Racing maintained its unbeaten record on home ground with a dominant one-two victory in the Six Hours of Fuji race which was held on October 12 during the fifth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The team scored a third consecutive win in the event thanks to the #8 TS040 HYBRID of Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi, who extend their lead in the drivers’ World Championship. A perfect day for the team saw the #7, winner in Fuji for the past two seasons, finish close behind in second, with Alex Wurz, Stéphane Sarrazin and Kazuki Nakajima at the wheel.

Both cars finished one lap ahead of the opposition as TOYOTA regained the lead of the manufacturers’ World Championship. Its third win of the season puts the team eight points clear of the closest competitor. In the drivers’ standings, Anthony and Sébastien lead by 26 points over team-mate Nicolas Lapierre, who missed the Fuji race for personal reasons.

According to Takayuki Yoshitsugu, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, TOYOTA Motor Corporation, “The performance of the TOYOTA Racing team in the Six Hours of Fuji race was truly impressive and I congratulate the team and support staff for this great result. Through our participation in the World Endurance Championship, we have added another dimension to our push towards for Toyota hybrid vehicles. Our vehicles have enthused tens of thousands of fans – and showed them that hybrids can be efficient – yes, but fun and fast too!

The TS040 HYBRID represents a great example of Toyota’s pioneering development of the most advanced hybrid technology in racing. We will utilize this knowledge and expertise in developing even better hybrid road cars to reinforce Toyota’s global leadership in hybrid vehicles.”

On this occasion, Yoshiaki Kinoshita, Team President said: “I am very proud of the team and drivers for this one-two finish in our home race. We have had some great days here at Fuji but this was even better than our previous victories. Many people have asked me if we feel extra pressure this weekend, as Fuji is our home race; actually we only feel extra support. So I would like to say a big thank you to all the fans, Fuji Speedway and our colleagues from TOYOTA who gave us such great encouragement all weekend. Our car was the most competitive this weekend and this is what we are pushing to achieve for the final three races of the season.”

Anthony Davidson said: “It was an absolutely perfect race and a perfect weekend for everyone at TOYOTA Racing. That was a great job by all the team; we had the strongest car, the right strategy and great pit stops. First and second in our home race; it doesn’t get better than that. For the team to win here three times in a row now is pretty special. It extends our lead in the drivers’ World Championship and regains the lead in the manufacturers’, so you couldn’t ask for any more as a team. So big thanks to all and especially to the guys from TOYOTA Motor Corporation who have given us such great support this week.”

Starting from pole, Sébastien in the #8 initially slipped to third in the first corners before hitting back and, helped by the 1,000PS four-wheel-drive TOYOTA HYBRID System – Racing, retaking the lead within the opening lap. Kazuki was also involved in the battle and ultimately gained a position to move into third.Sébastien returned to the cockpit of the #8 just before half distance while Alex took the wheel of the #7 to continue the TS040 HYBRID dominance. Anthony and Kazuki returned for further stints, with Stéphane taking over the #7 in the last hour as Anthony remained in the cockpit to take the chequered flag and a very popular one-two in front of 51,000 Japanese fans over the weekend.

Toyota C-HR Concept Revealed at 2014 Paris Motor Show

Toyota C-HR Concept Revealed at 2014 Paris Motor Show

News

C-HR Concept represents Toyota’s unique view of the compact crossover segment with new styling themes hinting at future design direction

October 12, 2014 – Toyota unveiled its C-HR concept hybrid compact crossover at the Paris Motor Show recently showcasing a new, dynamic design language with new styling themes and an agile and engaging drive. The C-HR concept hybrid represents Toyota’s vision of the future with hybrid and is the synthesis of 20 years of creativity.

According to Takayuki Yoshitsugu, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, TOYOTA Motor Corporation, “The C-HR Concept is another tangible manifestation of Toyota’s new Global Vision thinking, first advocated by our president Akio Toyoda in 2011. It introduces a new version of the sophisticated full hybrid powertrain technology that was first seen in the Prius and, inspired by the Toyota 86, targets new levels of dynamism and agility which will stand out in a competitive market. The C-HR is all set to redefine the compact crossover segment and hints at a future design direction for Toyota vehicles.“

From a  design perspective, the sculpted lower bodywork presents a precision-cut, faceted look, while the corners of the bodyshell have been cleanly shaved off, reducing overall mass and emphasising the powerful flaring of the wheel arches. Viewed from every angle, the crossover concept has a broad, planted stance.

The frontal styling displays a further development of Toyota’s current style language, but with new themes that hint at a future design direction. The slim upper grille design has evolved in to a floating ‘wing’ graphic that flows seamlessly around the front corners of the vehicle to the apex of each wing. Within this wing shape, the headlamps feature strong detailing, including a high-tech, 3D treatment of the daytime running lights.

Adding emphasis to the corners of the vehicle further reinforces the vehicle’s solid look. The large lower grille is flanked by strongly sculpted downward projections, underscored by a floating front spoiler. The faceted lower body, muscular wheel arches and angular rear shoulders are juxtaposed with a sleek cabin profile. The glasshouse is emphasised by a sweeping, uninterrupted extension of the side glazing into the rear screen. This creates a slim, floating roofline, tipped with a spoiler. Its length is exaggerated by residual C-pillars which taper to needle points either side of the rear screen.

The floating roof has patterned openings that create a lively play of light in the cabin. Seen from the rear, the sharply tapering glasshouse emphasises the car’s broad, planted appearance. The rear end displays the same faceted treatment and corner detailing as the front of the vehicle, together with distinctive, aero-inspired floating light clusters. A dedicated wheel design reinforces the concept’s crossover credentials, with blade-style spokes.

The C-HR Concept is built on a new platform and measures 4,350mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,500mm high. A lower centre of gravity and greater structural rigidity will contribute to much improved driving dynamics. A new, advanced full hybrid powertrain delivers an engaging driving experience that can deal with 21st century traffic conditions and delivers significantly improved fuel efficiency.
