Amman, January 2023: Qatari champion, Nasser Al Attiyah, has once again clinched the Dakar Rally driver’s title, his third out of five victories in this tournament behind the steering wheel of a Toyota, following two weeks of intense competition and tough challenges that resulted in him securing the lead during the final stage of the race, which took place in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
Representing the Toyota GAZOO Racing - Hilux team, Al Attiyah completed the 14 stages of the race in a Toyota Hilux GR, dominating the overall Dakar Rally standings with a winning margin of over one hour ahead of nine-time World Rally champion, Frenchman Sébastien Loeb, who came in second, succeeded by Brazilian driver, Lucas Moraes, who finished third, more than an hour behind Al Attiyah.
Over the years, Toyota has been participating in many different forms of motorsports, including Formula One, the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race. Toyota’s involvement in these events was overseen by separate entities within the company until April 2015, when Toyota established GAZOO Racing (GR) to consolidate its motorsports activities under one in-house brand. Representing Toyota’s belief that ‘the roads build the people’ and ‘the people build the cars’ - GR highlights the role of motorsports as a fundamental pillar of Toyota’s commitment to making ‘ever-better’ cars. Harnessing years of experience garnered under the extreme conditions of various motorsports events, GR aims to forge new technologies and solutions that bring the freedom, adventure and joy of driving to everyone.
